Minor placenames from part of the Waterford coastline

The minor coastal placenames and their associated wealth of information are disappearing from living memory. Cliffs, rocks and stones did not attract the same value as land. Some of these placenames have been recorded and published but there is a considerable number that are undocumented but live on in coastal communities.

The coastline from Dungarvan to Youghal, in Co. Waterford, was studied. The research involved the published material and interviews with local people. The placenames, the stories and maps were part of an M.A. in Local History in University College Cork, in 2018. A bilingual book, The Personality of a Coastline, based on the research, was published locally in 2019.
