Brian Mac Lochlainn collected these placenames from Alex Morrison in the 1980s and the 1990s. Alex was born in Greenock in Scotland in 1915. When his mother died when Alex was three years old, he was sent to Rathlin where his father’s sister reared him and Irish was spoken in the house. He had an extensive knowledge of the minor placenames of the island and there are almost 400 names in the collection. Alex died in 2012.
