The Waterways Ireland Heritage Plan 2016-2020 has a dedicated action which is to develop a community-led Placenames Project. We would be very interested to hear from individuals and/or community groups along our waterways (Shannon Navigation, Shannon Erne Waterway, Erne System, Lower Bann, Barrow Navigation and the Grand & Royal Canals) to collect these names or help facilitate placename events so that this important form of intangible cultural heritage can be preserved for this and future generations.
